Our architects have regular meetings with the builders on site throughout the construction process to ensure the translation of design details into the built form. These stories follow the projects as they begin to take shape in the construction phase.

James Street Residence Completed

We are delighted to share completed images of the James Street Residence which is a family home perched on a hill in Richmond. The building is made from two distinct parts – a restoration of the existing home which revitalises one of the first examples of a kit home in Australia and a modern extension as a distinct point of difference. Together the two create a cross section through architectural history along James Street. Each component creates its own distinct vernacular.

Visualising the Mermaid Beach Residence Queensland

The Mermaid Beach Residence is a new family home positioned along a surf beach in Queensland. Working with clients with an appreciation of concrete, the building was designed primarily of exposed concrete internally, as well as externally, with the addition of timber shutters on the external windows to protect against the sun and weather conditions. The new renderings show the building’s design which positions the entry along the side of the building, opening into the “heart” of the house, with immediate views of the pool and graduated views to the beach.

Construction updates at the Studley Avenue Residence

The limestone blocks have recently arrived to the construction site and are stacked waiting to be cleaned so they can be laid on the exterior wall of the structure. An initial sample of the pattern has been completed by the builder for the clients to see before it goes up around the entire building. The façade is cut through by a glazed opening around the corner of the upper level. The cut out is lined with an off form in-situ white concrete band that will wrap around the bottom, sides and top of the window. The first piece portion of the concrete can now be seen on the site.

Due to the sensitive nature of building on the coastline, the house design and construction have been carefully done to protect the foreshore. When complete, the new residence will be a two level family home constructed from textured concrete.

Construction progress at Musk Creek Road in Flinders

The Musk Creek Road Residence is set on a sloping rural site in Flinders. The architecture uses a large curved wall that follows contour of the land to carve out a platform for the building. The gesture of the large wall can now be clearly seen in the concrete blocks on the construction site. The framing for the rest of the dwelling is almost complete with the roofline topping out soon. The framing reveals the rural views reaching all the way to the bay.
