Musk Creek Residence – Completed

B.E Architecture is excited to unveil another of our recently completed projects, the Musk Creek Residence located in Flinders, Victoria. The house was designed for a couple from the city and their three dogs retiring to a coastline farm. The steeply sloping block of the land has breath-taking views of the Western Port and is subject to strong ocean winds. A level site for the building was created by cutting into the slope with a 4-metre high concrete wall to form a bench-like platform for construction.

The low-slung, glazed modernist pavilion is clad in metal, similar to that of a rural barn or shed. The same deep liquorice black colour was replicated for the timber wall panelling that punctuates the metal sections and is continued throughout the interior to make the large open spaces feel warmer and more contained. The dark, moody palette is tempered by light polished concrete floors and white ceilings.

The building wraps around a north facing garden creating a protected, sun-filled internal courtyard that houses the couple’s swimming pool and large outdoor entertaining area. Floor to ceiling windows that span the full length of the structure creates a sense of transparency with the surrounding landscape. From there, occupants are able to enjoy uninterrupted views of the ocean minus the strong winds.
