Kooyongkoot Residence – In Studio

One of the latest projects to have been developed in our studio is the Kooyongkoot Residence for our client in Hawthorn. The project is an extensive renovation of a heritage period home, which is being modernised to include all of the same creature comforts a contemporary, newly home built home would have. Due to the strict heritage overlay guidelines, the rear extension and façade has gone through many permutations to ensure its compliance and is now finally ready for construction.

The extension of the residence was designed to sit quietly behind the period façade, which will have its paintwork stripped back and be re-tuckpointed. The masonry for the exterior is to be rendered with finely powdered cement to complement the smooth internal plasterwork that will have been sifted by hand and made on site by an artisan craftsman.

The adjoining outdoor terrace will take full advantage of the north facing orientation and look down across the pool and garden. In addition to the renovation and extension of the home, B.E will also be designing the garden which is always something we look forward to when the opportunity presents itself.

As for the interior, we are in the process of designing a series of new steel frame windows to feature inside the project, along with a new custom ceramic tile which will be used to clad three of the fireplaces from top to bottom in a technique reminiscent of a Swedish stove. More updates about this exciting project to follow.
