Winter Street Residence, Malvern

Winter Street Residence is a renovation and extension to the double fronted Victorian on Winter Street in Malvern for two professionals with a growing family. Their interest in high-contrast and decorative elements create the character of their home. They were highly invested in the project, wanting every detail to be right, and were drawn to B.E’s integrated design so all elements were considered from the very beginning.

The existing portion of the house has been taken back to three walls and completely refinished in a style that captures the feeling of the original house with reinterpreted details including coved cornices, French polished doors and painted skirtings. A central courtyard with a single planted tree separates the Victorian building from the modern extension that can be seen from the kitchen and informal living room. This element mitigates the south facing living space greatly improving the quality of light through the house.

The back areas are characterised by expansive open plan and floor to ceiling windows that are afforded privacy from neighbouring houses by the landscaping in the back yard.

As an example of B.E Architecture’s integrated design approach including all elements from landscaping to furniture collections, custom-made items and working with our clients to build substantial art collections. The Winter Street Residence is a textured experience. The furniture includes a mix of designer furniture and lighting, eclectic collected vintage pieces and custom-made items designed by B.E Architecture. The clients have started an interesting collection of art with works by David Noonan, Tony Clark, Brent Harris and Heather Swann. The house is situated in landscaping including a meandering planted path to the entry door, planted courtyard and front and back gardens where we specified plants in a variety of colours that changes through the seasons.
