The Hopetoun Road Residence was designed for a Melbourne photographer and her family that have a passion for entertaining. With this in mind, B.E designed a series of custom lights throughout the house with a larger feature fitting to illuminate a concrete dining table, also designed by B.E, to be the centrepieces of all occasions held in the dining room thereafter. The client wanted the lights to be fun, and relaxed, but equally appropriate for more formal occasions.
The light itself was made from two sleeves of aluminium, which when put together, gives the illusion of a heavier pipe section. The inner sleeves were finished in pastel colours that were lit by upward facing, mercury coated globes so that the refracted light is soft and ambient.
This same lighting design was also reproduced in smaller sizes and made from copper piping to feature in the home’s entryway.
Many thanks to the guys at McKinna Sheet Metal who developed these lights with us.
